Glore Psychiatric Museum, Ep. 438

Posted on June 9, 2022 by History Goes Bump Posted in Haunted Location .

The term asylum means refuge and that is what lunatic asylums were meant to be, places of safety for those experiencing various forms of mental illness. But as we have found, very few asylums did more than house the mentally ill and use them as guinea pigs for various forms of torture. That is why so many of them have spiritual residue. The Glore Psychiatric Museum in St. Joseph, Missouri is a location that documents both in words and visual recreations, what life in an asylum was like for many people. Objects from many former asylums have become part of the collection and possibly have brought along attachments. Join us as we discuss the history of the former asylum that was here, the history of asylum treatments and the hauntings involved! The Moment in Oddity was suggested by Jannae McCabe and features the Wheel Bug and This Month in History features Edison patenting the Electrographic Vote Recorder.

Posted on April 14, 2022 by History Goes Bump Posted in Haunted Location .

Except for perhaps, children who still have living parents and yet end up in an orphanage. In the state of Montana, many of these orphaned and abandoned children ended up in an orphanage located in the city of Twin Bridges. This was the Montana State Orphan’s Asylum that was also known as Twin Bridges Orphanage and later, the Montana Children’s Center. It opened in 1894 and housed children for 81 years. Today, it is closed and privately owned and is reputedly one of the more haunted locations in the state. Join us as we explore the history and hauntings of the Twin Bridges Orphanage! The Moment in Oddity was suggested by Jenny Lynne Raines and features beetles as clothing decoration and This Month in History features the beginning of the Black Hawk War.

Haunted Cemeteries 22, Ep. 428

Posted on March 24, 2022 by History Goes Bump Posted in Haunted Location .

Every life is worth remembering. And that is what cemeteries are all about. Remembering those who have lived. Some of those people in graveyards were famous, some were powerful, but most are just like us. A mom or dad, sister or brother or perhaps a friend. Some of those who are buried have chosen to stay with their bodies. Their spirits glide through the tombstones. Other haunting activity in cemeteries seems to feed off the legends told or the rituals held. Join us on Haunted Cemeteries 22 as we share haunted cemeteries in Indiana, Mississippi, Rhode Island and Pennsylvania! The Moment in Oddity was suggested by John Michaels and features Jack Daniels dying from a stubbed toe and This Month in History features “Oklahoma” debuting on Broadway.
