Cedar Grove Mansion, Ep. 523

Posted on February 1, 2024 by History Goes Bump Posted in Haunted Location .

The city of Vicksburg was indelibly marked by the Civil War. After it surrendered, rumors claimed that the Union pillaged the city. Many of the historic locations there have a spiritual residue because of that fact. One of these places is the Cedar Grove Inn. The inn was not only a residence, but it eventually served as a Civil War hospital and morgue and has had infant deaths and accidental shootings connected to it. The stories of haunting activity at this location are plentiful. Join us as we explore the history and hauntings of the Cedar Grove Inn! The Moment in Oddity features Owl Quidditch and This Month in History features the first publication of The Reader’s Digest. Our location was suggested by Amy Martinez.

The Waverley Plantation Home is located near West Point, Mississippi and is not only one of the most photographed antebellum homes in the South, but is very uniquely designed with an octagonal shaped cupola. The Robert Snow family took what had become a rundown and abandoned home and over a period of 25 years returned it to its former glory. It’s a registered historic landmark that you can visit today. Be sure to bring your paranormal senses because this place reputedly has several spirits! Join us as we explore the history and hauntings of Waverley Plantation House! The Moment in Oddity was suggested by Chelsea Flowers and features The Lost City of Derinkuyu and This Month in History features “Annie Hall” winning Best Picture. Our location was suggested by Bailey O’Brian.

Duff Green Mansion, Ep. 281

Posted on November 8, 2018 by History Goes Bump Posted in Haunted Location .

Vicksburg is one of those Civil War era cities that I long to visit because I love antebellum mansions. The Greek Revival architecture and magnolia trees take me back to an earlier time with hoop skirts embellished with ribbons and elegant carriages riding in the streets, but it was also a dark time of slavery and division in the United States that would lead to the outbreak of the Civil War. Vicksburg was the scene of an intense battle that would leave over 37,000 causalities in its wake. Just prior to the outbreak of the war, Duff Green built his mansion and the Bed and Breakfast still carries his name today. The mansion seems to have more than just the Green name. Spirits of the family members seem to have stayed on her in the afterlife. Join me as I explore the history and hauntings of the Duff Green Mansion! The Moment in Oddity was suggested by Kim Gasiorowski and features the Park of Monsters and This Month in History features the founding of Mission San Juan Capistrano. Mort starts his Executive Producer eulogies on this episode as well!
