World War I would birth the beginnings of the Air Service branch of the Army, which would eventually become the Air Force. This branch of the military is almost 80 years old, making it the youngest branch of the military until the Space Force was established in 2019. There are currently over 50 active-duty air force bases around the world. They serve a variety of purposes from combat operations to support training to logistics to command.
