Mount Washington Hotel, Ep. 507

Posted on October 5, 2023 by History Goes Bump Posted in Haunted Location .

Omni Hotels & Resorts own a long list of haunted hotels and they embrace that reputation. One of their hotels is the Mount Washington Hotel in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire. This is a beautiful location surrounded by the White Mountain National Forest, so it is no wonder that the rich would make this one of their playgrounds. Some of the grandest hotels ever built in America’s history, were built here. Perhaps it is that link to the Gilded Age that has locked in spectres to this establishment. Join us as we share the history and hauntings of the Mount Washington Hotel. The Moment in Oddity features The Hambone Award and This Month in History features the first World Series radio broadcast.

Posted on September 21, 2023 by History Goes Bump Posted in Haunted Location .

Lincoln, Nebraska is the home of the Cornhuskers and its also the state’s capitol city. The Sower stands atop the tower of the Capitol Building, preparing to toss some seeds to businesses and neighborhoods below. Some refer to the area as fly over country and describe the landscape as boring. But for us, if you throw ghosts in the mix, a city becomes suddenly exciting. And a quick drive through the nearby rural areas certainly inspires visions of Children of the Corn. Join us as we share the history and hauntings of Lincoln, Nebraska. The Moment in Oddity was suggested by Jannae McCabe and features the Cookiecutter Shark and This Month in History features the creation of Chia Pets. Our location was suggested by Dan.

USS Salem, Ep. 502

Posted on August 31, 2023 by History Goes Bump Posted in Haunted Location .

The USS Salem was the flagship of the 6th Fleet and is nicknamed “The Sea Witch.” She was first launched in 1947 as a Naval cruiser and was fortunate to never see any battle. But that didn’t keep her from being linked to death with reports of onboard deaths ranging from 75 to 100. And that has left ghosts on this now floating museum in Quincy, Massachusetts that we had the opportunity to explore when we visited Salem in August of 2022. Join us for the history and hauntings of the USS Salem! The Moment in Oddity features Magnetic Termites and This Month in History features Cy Young’s major league debut. We are joined by Jared Rang who suggested this location!

Hotel del Coronado, Ep. 501

Posted on August 24, 2023 by History Goes Bump Posted in Haunted Location .

There’s no other way to describe the Hotel del Coronado in San Diego other than magnificent. The structure is unique and easily recognizable with its Queen Anne Victorian architecture and white clapboard exterior topped with red turrets. Much has been added to it through the years to modernize it, but the original 1888 hotel still dominates the scene. A beautiful stranger came to stay in 1892 and she was found dead at the hotel. And now that hotel is famously haunted by her spirit. From the hotel, one can see the Old Point Loma Lighthouse, which also is apparently haunted. Join us as we explore the history and hauntings of Hotel del Coronado. The Moment in Oddity features a gold coin treasure and This Month in History features the Lincoln penny.
