British Museum, Ep. 447

Posted on August 11, 2022 by History Goes Bump Posted in Haunted Location .

The British Museum in London is a site to behold with over thirteen million objects in its vast collections from around the world. Over 17,000 people visit the 14-acre complex every single day, making it the most popular attraction in Great Britain. There is no doubt with the relics and other objects that are here, that a ghost or two might be hanging out due to attachments and such. And keeping in mind that some of these collections should probably be repatriated to their home countries, it’s no wonder that spirits may be at unrest. Join us as we explore the history, collections and hauntings at the British Museum! The Moment in Oddity features the Two Headed Boy of Bengal and This Month in History features the Lewis and Clark Expedition’s only death.

Southgate-Thompson House, Ep. 446

Posted on August 4, 2022 by History Goes Bump Posted in Haunted Location .

The first image we saw of this place featured this grande dame of a home at night with uplights illuminating the front. With its concave mansard roof and center three-and-a-half-story tower, we could imagine the Addams Family feeling right at home within the walls. For 200 years it’s sat above Newport, looming down over the Ohio River. Today, it is a music venue and place for the arts. Stories claim there are at least three spirits in this house. The city of Newport itself has ties to gangsters and a few other haunted places as well. Join us as we explore the history and hauntings of the Southgate-Thompson House and Newport, Kentucky! The Moment in Oddity was suggested by Mike Rogers and features The Leatherman and This Month in History features the discovery of Sue the Tyrannosaurus Rex.

Is that why there are spirits here? Join us as we explore the history and hauntings of Ringwood Manor! The Moment in Oddity features The Giant’s Playground and This Month in History features Hiram Bingham visiting Machu Picchu for the first time. Our location was suggested by Todd Bouverot.

Glore Psychiatric Museum, Ep. 438

Posted on June 9, 2022 by History Goes Bump Posted in Haunted Location .

The term asylum means refuge and that is what lunatic asylums were meant to be, places of safety for those experiencing various forms of mental illness. But as we have found, very few asylums did more than house the mentally ill and use them as guinea pigs for various forms of torture. That is why so many of them have spiritual residue. The Glore Psychiatric Museum in St. Joseph, Missouri is a location that documents both in words and visual recreations, what life in an asylum was like for many people. Objects from many former asylums have become part of the collection and possibly have brought along attachments. Join us as we discuss the history of the former asylum that was here, the history of asylum treatments and the hauntings involved! The Moment in Oddity was suggested by Jannae McCabe and features the Wheel Bug and This Month in History features Edison patenting the Electrographic Vote Recorder.
