Haunted Cemeteries 14, Ep. 306

Posted on August 29, 2019 by History Goes Bump Posted in Haunted Location .

When we look at haunted graveyards, we have many questions. Why are there ghosts or at least, unexplained things happening in cemeteries? Can we find answers in the history? In the stories? We’re up to episode 14 of these haunted cemeteries and I don’t know that I’m any closer to answers. One thing that is very clear though, is that cemeteries are very important! Join me as we explore Elkhart Cemetery in Illinois, Dawson Cemetery in New Mexico, Lone Fir Cemetery in Oregon, Spider Gate Cemetery in Massachusetts and Oakwood Cemetery in Texas! Moment in Oddity features the Mysterious Stone Monuments of Markawasi, Peru and This Month in History features King William II dies by accident or assassination.

Black Dahlia Murder House, Ep. 305

Posted on August 15, 2019 by History Goes Bump Posted in Haunted Location .

The “Black Dahlia Murder House” is actually the John Sowden House. The man I believe killed Elizabeth Short lived here for a time and I believe he murdered her and many other women in this house. The torture and murder that took place here has left a negative spiritual residue that has lead to hauntings. Not only that, but the Black Dahlia herself is not at rest and has been seen in several locations in her spirit form. Join me as I explore the murder of the Black Dahlia, her killer and the history of the house that ties the two together, the Sowden House! The Moment in Oddity was suggested by Michael Rogers and features the Aztec Death Whistle and This Month in History features Congress taking over lighthouses.

Keg Mansion Steakhouse, Ep. 303

Posted on July 18, 2019 by History Goes Bump Posted in Haunted Location .

Keg Mansion Steakhouse in Toronto, Canada is considered Canada’s most infamous and haunted restaurant. The Steakhouse is the former home to a radio station and the Bombay Bicycle Club, but for many of its years, it was a home to some very well-known Torontonians. Several family members died here as well as a staff member. Many have claimed to have unexplained experiences at the steakhouse. Could these be caused by spirits of the family? Join me as I explore the history and hauntings of the Keg Mansion Steakhouse. The Moment in Oddity was suggested by listener Ariel Facey and features the tree with matchmaking powers and This Month in History features Percy Shelley drowning.

Mineral Springs Hotel, Ep. 302

Posted on July 11, 2019 by History Goes Bump Posted in Haunted Location .

Alton, Illinois’ position along the great Mississippi River made it a good place to stay and when mineral springs were discovered under the spot where the Mineral Springs Hotel now sits, it became a place to stay for relaxation and the curative powers of the water. This was a grand hotel that has faded and now houses shops and possibly spirits. This is said to be one of the most haunted locations in Alton and on this episode we share its stories as we venture into every nook and cranny from the dug out spaces underneath the building to the empty pool room and beyond. Join us on our investigation into the Mineral Springs Hotel! The Moment in Oddity was suggested by John Michaels and features the Peck San Theng Columbarium and This Month in History features German radar foiled.

Aradale Asylum in Australia, Ep. 292

Posted on February 28, 2019 by History Goes Bump Posted in Haunted Location .

The Aradale Asylum would be home for the mentally ill for over a century and would feature conditions and treatments similar to other asylums around the world, most of which were not good. This misunderstanding and mistreatment of the mentally ill lends itself to the negative energy that sometimes feeds paranormal activity. The fact that the criminally insane were kept in J Ward only heightens that energy. Join me as I explore the history and hauntings of the Aradale Asylum! The Moment in Oddity features Moonshiners using cow shows to hide footprints and This Month in History features the first photo of an American President.

The Colosseum, Ep. 289

Posted on January 17, 2019 by History Goes Bump Posted in Haunted Location .

Rome is a city that is believed to have had some kind of human existence within it for at least 10,000 years. This city would rise from a place of little stature to one of the greatest empires ever to exist. Amazing structures would be built under that empire. The Colosseum in Rome, Italy was an architectural marvel, but also a place of immense human and animal suffering. People would come from all over to witness amazing feats by human gladiators and to witness the tearing apart of other humans at the hands of wild animals. This was considered sport at that time and the remnants of this activity and the residue left behind has imprinted spiritually on The Colosseum. Tales of hauntings are rampant and this structure is said to be one of the most haunted locations in all of Italy. Join me as I explore the history and hauntings of The Colosseum!Moment in Oddity was suggested by Breanne Sanford and features the SS Warrimoo at International Date Line and This Month in History features Robert Clifton Weaver as first Black Cabinet member. Our location was suggested by Anthony Ortiz.

The Legend of the Hitchhiking Ghost, Ep. 280

Posted on October 25, 2018 by History Goes Bump Posted in Urban Legend .

Roadside apparitions have been witnessed by thousands of motorists and there seems to be a legend of a hitchhiking ghost in every state in America. Many countries around the world have these hitchhiking ghost tales as well. These tales are haunting and tragic. They usually involve a young woman standing on the side of the road, appearing to be in distress or in need of a ride and after being noticed or picked up in a vehicle, she disappears. There is a level of trust and intimacy in giving someone a ride in your car, particularly a stranger. In our modern era, it just isn’t save to be either the driver or the hitchhiker. And maybe that is why these types of tales are so prevalent. There already is a basic level of fear involved in the act of hitchhiking. This episode can’t possibly cover every single legend out there involving hitchhiking ghosts, but we will touch on several that include tales from across America and from several countries. Join me on the roadside as we search out the legend of the hitchhiking ghost. Moment in Oddity features Pumpkin Races and This Month in History features the calliope is patented.

The tales of experiences are numerous and this location has been featured in multiple paranormal television shows. The museum showcases the charming and proud history of the Lovejoy neighborhood in Buffalo. The memorabilia is a sight to see and the place is crammed so full, it takes several hours to enjoy it all. And perhaps this is why the place is so haunted, all that memorabilia. Or could it be the former use for the building causing the hauntings? Join me as I explore the history and hauntings of the Iron Island Museum. The Moment in Oddity features The Koreshan State Historic Site and This Month in History features the first double-decked steamboat arriving in New Orleans.

The Goldfield Hotel, Ep. 274

Posted on September 13, 2018 by History Goes Bump Posted in Haunted Location .

Many consider the town of Goldfield in Nevada to be a ghosttown and with a population hovering around 200, it really does seem to be that way. This was once a boom town though and for several decades millions of dollars in gold was mined here. During that boom, The Goldfield Hotel was built. This building is one of the few to have survived fire and time. Today, the only guests that stay here are those seeking a connection with the afterlife and based on the experiences reported in the media and those that I have heard personally, the hotel’s reputation for being haunted is well deserved. Join me as I explore the history and hauntings of The Goldfield Hotel. This location was suggested by listeners Anna Prado-Frias and Melissa Potter. The Moment in Oddity features Einstein’s Brain and This Month in History features the guillotine falling silent.
