Posted on July 29, 2021 by History Goes Bump Posted in Haunted Location .

Annapolis, Maryland has hundreds of years of history behind it. First settled by Puritans in the mid-1600s, it grew into an important coastal city of historical significance and is today the capital of the state of Maryland. The city has more 18th century structures still standing than any other city in the United States. Some of those structures are taverns and several of those are said to be haunted. Join us as we explore the history and hauntings of the taverns of Annapolis! The Moment in Oddity was suggested by Bill Richardson and features Wojtek the Bear and This Month in History features the first test tube baby being born. Our topic was suggested by Amanda Prouty.

Lyceum Hall, Ep. 392

Posted on July 8, 2021 by History Goes Bump Posted in Haunted Location .

Lyceums were part of an educational movement in the New England area during the Victorian era. These were places that hosted some of the greatest orators of the time and one in particular was the scene of Alexander Graham Bell making the first successful long distance phone call. This would be the Salem Lyceum Hall. Today it is Turner’s Seafood Grill and Market. This sits on land once owned by Bridget Bishop who was the first to die during the Salem Witch Trials. Is this land cursed? Is that why there are ghost stories connected to this property? Join us as we explore the history and haunts of the Lyceum Hall. The Moment in Oddity was suggested by Gail Frederick and features an abandoned town of Disneyesque castles and This Month in History features The Niagara Movement forming.

The Ghost Town of Bannack, Ep. 383

Posted on April 29, 2021 by History Goes Bump Posted in Haunted Location .

Bannack, Montana was a wild gold mining town with no sheriff to keep the peace until Henry Plummer came along and he turned out to be the worst criminal of them all. Brothels dotted the streets, as did saloons and within its first fourteen months of existence, seven people had been executed. The life of the town was short lived and unlike its sister cities of Helena and Virginia City, Bannack became a ghost town. The state government maintains the property and they have chosen to keep it in its dilapidated state. And perhaps that is why it seems that some ghosts are frozen in time here. Join us as we explore the history and hauntings of the ghost town of Bannack! The Moment in Oddity was suggested by Jenny Raines and features the Exeter Cathedral Clock and This Month in History features Tie a Yellow Ribbon Around the Old Oak Tree.

Haunted Cemeteries 18 and Cremation, Ep. 382

Posted on April 22, 2021 by History Goes Bump Posted in Haunted Location .

Why would a spirit hang around their grave? We recall that we had a listener named Maya write us a few months back and she had wondered if cemeteries were haunted because spirits were guarding their bodies, particularly from grave robbers. And we had wondered if maybe some spirits were hanging around because that is where their family would come to visit them. We may never know why a cemetery is haunted, but there are plenty to investigate to try to find out why. On this episode we have The Lost Cemetery of Infants from Texas, Citizens Cemetery in Arizona, 100 Steps Cemetery and Stepp Cemetery in Indiana and Erie Street Cemetery in Ohio. We also will be discussing cremation and a haunted crematory! Join us for Haunted Cemeteries 18! The Moment in Oddity was suggested by Jeannie Nolan and features Lost Lake Hole and This Month in History features Rita Moreno winning the first Oscar for a Hispanic woman.
