Haunted Cemeteries 30, Ep. 560

Posted on October 17, 2024 by History Goes Bump Posted in Haunted Location .

A bench, hewn from natural wood, that is located in one of our featured cemeteries reads, “Here I sit broken-hearted, thinking about, our dearly departed.” And that is why we have cemeteries. To remember our dearly departed family and friends. For those of us that wander these cities of the dead, we make new friends along the way as we stop and read a headstone here and there. A life remembered for a brief moment. We give that to the dead when we stop and care. And in some cemeteries, our efforts do not go in vain as we are watched and surveyed from beyond the veil. On this haunted cemeteries episode, we feature haunted cemeteries in Arizona; Alabama; Ontario, Canada; Prague, Czech Republic; South Dakota and two St. Mary Churchyard’s in London, Britain. The Moment in Oddity features The Giant’s Causeway and This Month in History features the bombing of St. Paul’s Cathedral.

Lord Baltimore Hotel, Ep. 559

Posted on October 10, 2024 by History Goes Bump Posted in Haunted Location .

Viewing historic pictures from the Lord Baltimore Hotel conjures images of the Overlook Hotel and Jack Torrance standing for a photo with a large group of guests. It’s heyday came during the glitz and glamour of the 20s and 30s. The hotel has stood for nearly 100 years and hosted several notable people. It also was the scene of several suicides after the Stock Market Crash. And for that reason, despite its historic charm, there are many ghosts hanging around the hotel. Join us for the history and hauntings of the Lord Baltimore Hotel. The Moment in Oddity features El Ojo and This Month in History features Bruce Mozert Photography.

The Arlington Hotel and Spa has so many ghost stories that are connected to it that it would make more sense for us to tell the listeners that it is located in Haunt Springs rather than Hot Springs, Arkansas. The hotel is located in the heart of downtown Hot Springs and is the third version of the hotel to stand and has been here for 100 years. This is a large and glorious historic hotel that hosted the rich, powerful and famous decades ago. Join us for the history and hauntings of the Arlington Resort Hotel and Spa. Nestled within the Canadian Rockies in southwest Alberta is Crowsnest Pass. There are many interesting stories about this location and several of them seem to have ghosts connected to them. Join us for the history and hauntings of Alberta’s Crowsnest Pass! The Moment in Oddity features Gates of Hell Hacienda Heights and This Month in History features the Great Fire of London.

The Hanford Bastille, Ep. 553

Posted on August 29, 2024 by History Goes Bump Posted in Haunted Location .

The Bastille is a former jail that dates back to the Wild West and ran as a jail for nearly 70 years. The building has had many iterations after it closed as a jail. This was an art gallery, a restaurant, a bar and a nightclub. Today, it stands empty and in need of major renovations. This may or may not please the current residents of the building, the ghosts. For years, ghost stories have been told about the building. Join us as we explore the history and hauntings of the Hanford Bastille. The Moment in Oddity features a mummified clown and This Month in History features Lake Nyos exploding.

Haunted Abbeville, South Carolina, E. 552

Posted on August 22, 2024 by History Goes Bump Posted in Haunted Location .

The town of Abbeville in South Carolina is near the Georgia state line and hosted the last war council for Jefferson Davis. The Confederacy died in this town. The tree-lined square hosts many historic buildings and the town itself is filled with Victorian and Gothic styled homes. This all makes Abbeville seem like a quiet little town. But underneath that southern charm are ghost stories. Many buildings here are said to be haunted. Join us for the history and hauntings of the town of Abbeville, South Carolina. The Moment in Oddity features swallowing gum and This Month in History features the birth of Davy Crockett.

USS The Sullivans, Ep. 551

Posted on August 15, 2024 by History Goes Bump Posted in Haunted Location .

USS The Sullivans is berthed now at the Buffalo Naval and Servicemen’s Park in New York. We learned a lot about USS The Sullivans when we toured the USS Yorktown in June 2024. It’s a very different name for a ship and that’s because it was named for five brothers who all died aboard the same ship when it was sunk by a Japanese submarine during World War II. Those brothers just may be haunting their namesake. Or maybe there are other spirits here. Join us as we explore the history and hauntings of USS The Sullivans. The Moment in Oddity features the Father of the Marathon and This Month in History features the Klondike Gold Rush. Our location was suggested by Erica Merhoff.

Bellaire Demon House, Ep. 550

Posted on August 8, 2024 by History Goes Bump Posted in Haunted Location .

The Bellaire House has a big reputation and is located in southeastern Ohio in the city for which it is named. The Heatherington family built the house, lived here and died here and are said to haunt it now. But this isn’t just the Bellaire Haunted House. People refer to this as the Bellaire Demon House. The house is said to be plagued with lots of ghostly and demonic activity. Possibly because it sits on a ley line or maybe because a coal mine blew up nearby killing 42 men. Or maybe somebody just opened a bunch of portals. Join us for the history and hauntings of the Bellaire Demon House! The Moment in Oddity features the motorcycle sidecar ambulance and This Month in History features the Voting Rights Act.
